Liverpool forward Diogo Jota continued his fantastic start to the season on Tuesday night, as he registered a goal and assist for Portugal. The Selecao enjoyed a routine 3-0 win over Azerbaijan in their FIFA World Cup qualifying Group A clash, with Manchester City's Bernardo Silva and RB Leipzig sharpshooter Andre Silva also finding the net.The result keeps Portugal top of their group, with four wins and a draw from their five matches so far. Serbia are the side in closest proximity to them, as they sit a couple of points back.Tuesday's result saw Portugal show off their strength in depth at the top end of the pitch, as they still had far too much firepower for their opponents even without Cristiano Ronaldo in the squad; the new Manchester United signing was suspended for the game after picking up a yellow card against the Republic of Ireland. Without their talisman, it was Jota who stepped up for Fernando Santos' side, operating off the left flank and causing a stream problems for Azerbaijan with a typically vibrant outing. After setting up Silva's opener, Jota rounded off the rout with a trademark header, making it eight goals in 21 games for his country.Liverpool supporters were understandably delighted to see the 24-year-old excelling during the international break: With Roberto Firmino 's fitness still in doubt for the return of the Premier League, Jota is set to play a vital role for Liverpool over the coming months. The Reds will be back in action on Sunday, when they visit what promises to be a raucous Elland Road to take on Leeds United.Read MoreRelated ArticlesRead MoreRelated Articles
