Jurgen Klopp has opened up on his disagreement with Arsene Wenger as the Liverpool boss stated opposition to a biennial World Cup.Former Arsenal boss Wenger has been speaking to many prominent football figures in Doha this week in his position as chief of football development at FIFA.The legendary Gunners boss also met with Klopp last month to talk through the plans to hold a World Cup every two years instead of its current scheduling of every four.Klopp said the talks with Wenger were cordial and respectful, but admitted he vehemently disagreed with FIFA's latest plans. "Usually these things would stay private, but I have to say all these things constantly about more games and stuff like this," Klopp said."There were two things that Arsene showed me, apart from all the nice things we spoke about, because we have a great relationship."He said about a World Cup every two years and I said immediately it's more games, no chance, that's not right."And the other thing was a decrease in the amount of international breaks and we have longer runs for qualifications."Let me say, the October break, if they play no club games and five or six with the national teams, I don't know. I didn't understand it 100 per cent."I know they wanted to put all the international games in that [October break] and then no other break until December or whatever, but this idea, we could talk about but I don't think it will change the football world."But having a tournament every two years, I cannot be in favour of it because I think we already play too many games."Where is the good, old, very important pre-season with no summer tournament at all?"But then they say the clubs will play [summer] tournaments, but the clubs can decide that. It's only a few games abroad which is important for the clubs as well."Must-read Liverpool FC newsThe Liverpool manager also stated how the authorities do not allow for the game's best players to effectively prepare for a long season in the same way other top athletes are afforded the time to do so in their respective sports. "But you have a pre-season for six or seven weeks and all the people who train for a big, big competition need preparation."To train for the Olympics, [athletes] go high up in the mountains and train incredibly hard and are well prepared for the moment when they have their competition."Footballers just play the whole year, have two weeks off then play again. That's football."How do you want to improve this game? You cannot. You just do what you can but nobody listens."So it doesn't make sense to talk too much about it."Read MoreRelated ArticlesRead MoreRelated Articles
