Engineer jailed for molestation, fined for house trespass
A 33-year-old Indian national by the name of Prabu Natarajan was given three weeks’ jail sentence for one count of molestation and fined S$2,500 for house trespass. The sentence and charge were meted out on Thursday, 14 December 2017.
The incident of molestation took place on board bus service 300 on 21 November 2016. Both Prabu and the victim had boarded the bus at Choa Chu Kang Bus Interchange at 5.45pm on that day. Prabu sat on the victim’s right, while she was seated next to the window.
In the midst of the bus journey, Prabu bumped his left thigh into the victim’s right bare thigh. The victim responded by shifting towards the window, away from Prabu. However, Prabu continued to rub his thigh against the victim’s shortly after she expressed a sign of avoidance.
The court told her that altogether, Prabu had rubbed against her thigh for about three times, each lasting two to three seconds.
The victim, a tutor, had alighted at Blk 291 Choa Chu Kang Ave 3. As he stays at the block, Prabu got off at the same stop also.
Prabu then proceeded to enter the same lift as the victim. The lady expressed shock upon Prabu entering the lift, but kept quiet when he asked why she was scared. Prabu then rubbed her right arm up and down, commenting that she looked good. He also asked the victim if she liked him touching her thigh when they were on the bus.
Upon leaving the lift, the victim managed to run away before Prabu managed to grab hold of her shoulder. The victim threatened to call the police should Prabu continue following her. She then proceeded to seek help at her student’s home.
For outrage of modesty, Prabu could have been jailed up to two years, fined, caned or given any combination of punishment.
