Two men arrested for making drugs in Yishun

Two Singaporean men, of ages 40 and 45, were arrested after an operation conducted by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) on Wednesday, 6 December 2017.

The two suspects were arrested for manufacturing controlled drugs, comprising of 2.6kg of synthetic cannabis. The operation was held at unit located within an industrial building. The building is situated at Yishun Industrial St 1, and the operation was supported by both the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and the Health Science Authority (HSA).

The CNB officers raided the unit and arrested the two men. In the midst of the operation, they detected a pungent smell and quickly fled the unit with the two men. Following which, the SCDF dispatched a team of HazMat (Hazardous Materials) specialists to investigate the smell that was spreading around within the unit.

The team determined that the air within the room was hazardous and proceeded to conduct a controlled ventilation inside the unit.

When the room was safe to enter, CNB and HSA officers conducted a thorough search of the unit and uncovered 2.6kg of synthetic cannabis and 500g of an unknown powdery substance.

The two suspects are currently being investigated for unauthorised manufacturing of controlled drugs. If found guilty of unauthorised manufacturing of the Class A controlled drug, each of them face a jail term of at least 10 years as well as five strokes of the cane.
