Scariest thing about Paradigm Mall in JB isn’t the ghost stories but the car park

For those in the know, Paradigm Mall was as Kemayan City and was meant to be the largest integrated shopping centre in Johor Bahru, based on plans laid out in 1993.

But the development was abandoned in 1997 — probably due to the financial crisis — and has only recently been developed:

As it laid dormant the past two decades wasting away, it was bound to attract spooky stories — such as Singaporeans stopping over to buy things when the place wasn’t even opened and ending up with leaves.

Scary five-storey up-slope car park ramp

However, what is scariest of all these days is the vertiginous up-slope car park ramp in the mall.

Since the mall opened in late November, videos posted on YouTube showed the impossible turns and the advanced circuit skills necessary to navigate around the tight bends — up five storeys.

Vehicles can be seen stopping mid-way up the slope to avoid scratching the sides.

One video showed the two-minute ride up: “Ok, let’s go, roller-coaster.”

Another video showed the ups and downs of the car park:

And the scariest video of all, showed how there was no parking lots after 30 minutes of navigating around (Watch from 3min 43sec):

The layout of the car park looked like it was developed at a time when not much thinking went into the mall’s future — like in 1997.
