Bukit Panjang residents educated about SkillsFuture through getai performance
The residents of a neighbourhood estate at Pending Rd within the Bukit Panjang district were treated to a unique getai performance which educated them about the benefits of the SkillsFuture programme in an engaging manner.
Combining Mandarin with splashes of Hokkien, Malay and English, the getai peformers comprise of veterans such as Liu Ling Ling and Hao Hao. Together, they brought about joy and laughter to around 800 residents at the Pending Rd housing estate, while enlightening them on the future economy of Singapore.
According to district mayor of North West Community Development Council (CDC) Teo Ho Pin, there is still a lack of understanding amongst Singaporeans as to what the SkillsFuture has to offer.
“It will take the community some time to digest the information, so we have to present it to them in an effective manner,” Mr Teo explained. He mentioned that the interactive getai is one of the ways the CDC hopes to reach out to the Chinese community, and that the council is in the midst of brainstorming for other events to reach out to the community.
