80 arrested in Geylang during multi-agency operation

80 people, aged between 20 and 57, were arrested in Geylang for various offences during a 4-day multi-agency joint operation that ended on the morning of 14 December 2017.

The operation was led by Bedok Police Division and involved enforcement officers from the Criminal Investigation Department, Singapore Customs, and Health Sciences Authority (HSA).

60 men, aged between 20 and 57, were arrested for offences related to gaming in public under the Common Gaming Houses Act.

Two men, aged 19 and 32, were arrested for suspected peddling of duty-unpaid cigarettes. A total of 242 cartons and 158 packets of duty-unpaid cigarettes were seized in the entire operation.

Three men and two women, aged between 22 and 46, were arrested for suspected drug-related offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Five women, aged between 24 and 33, were arrested under the Women’s Charter for vice-related offences and a 20-year-old man was arrested for overstaying under the Immigration Act. Another six men and one woman, aged between 28 and 52, were arrested for various criminal offences.

Investigations against all the suspects are on-going.

A 25-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman are also assisting HSA with investigations for the sale of illegal sexual enhancement products. A total of 2,347 units of assorted illegal sexual enhancement drugs, 1,760 units of other illegal medicines such as sleeping pills, codeine tablets and 85 bottles of cough mixtures with street value of $10,406 were seized.

Commander of Bedok Police Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Tan Tin Wee, expressed his appreciation to the Police units and agencies involved for their strong support and commended the officers for their professionalism and excellent teamwork which led to the execution of another successful operation.
