Imagine living alone and dying alone. Imagine dying alone and rotting away in the silence of your own flat because there is nobody to check on you.

This is a common occurrence among many of the elderly here in Singapore. They either have no children or their children are too engrossed in their own lives to take much notice of their parents.

Many of them might pass away on their own... until someone notices the stench of a rotting body and alert the authorities.

Earlier today (28 Dec), at about 9:28am, the police was notified about a decomposing body at 621B Edgefield Walk. A social worker had been unable to contact one of her charges in the Punggol area and had made a trip down to check on the deceased.

The deceased is said to be a 68-year-old man. He was living by himself.

The social worker had called the police upon encountering the stench of a rotting body.

The police had opened the door with the help of a locksmith. They had found the deceased lying motionless. He was later pronounced dead by paramedics.

The deceased's next-of-kin has been notified.

Investigation into his death is still ongoing. The police has classified the case as unnatural death.
