Volvo becomes submarine along Upper Changi Road during Monday ponding

A Volvo car turned into a submarine along Upper Changi Road on Jan. 8, 2018.

This was after heavy thundery showers fell over almost all parts of Singapore on Monday morning, resulting in massive ponding, which is more commonly known as flash floods.

Water levels in several waterways, such as Sungei Tongkang, Sungei Kallang and Bedok Canal, were close to being full.

The PUB issued “high flood risk” alerts for them.

Stalled vehicles

A video posted online showed the Volvo submarine stalled, with another Mercedes submarine in the opposite direction being abandoned by its owner in knee-high flood waters:

At Singapore Post Ayer Rajah Delivery Base, a swimming pool was temporarily formed as motorists took to the roads to divert traffic in what is essentially a canal:
