Suicide at A*Star lab: doctorate student kills herself via nitrogen poisoning!
A 26-year-old doctorate student, Katarina Chlebikova, was found dead on the eighth floor at 61 Biopolis Drive yesterday morning (16 Jan).
The student, a Slovakian female, is believed to have died after inhaling nitrogen gas found in the Claridge-Chang Lab where she worked. A note was found with her body when the lab's staff discovered her this morning.
The police were alerted at about 10:44am. They have classified the case as an unnatural death.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force was also alerted. The paramedics who accompanied the dispatched ambulance pronounced the student dead on the scene.
She had been working on her PhD while working at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB). However, her information has been taken off the laboratory's website.
According to her colleagues, Chlebikova had been facing issues both at work and in her personal life, which might have contributed to her suicide.
Investigations are ongoing.
