After a heavy drinking session, he’d still gotten into his car and attempted to drive home - rashly driving to avoid a roadblock and almost causing an accident.

Sales manager Ng Kim Inn has been jailed seven weeks and fined $4,000 for drink driving and rash driving on Thursday (18 Jan). He was also banned from driving for four years.

He had driven his Land Rover along New Bridge Road at 4.40am in March last year, when he stumbled across a roadblock by two traffic police officers at the junction of Eu Tong Sen Street and Upper Cross Street.

The 36-year-old sales manager then braked suddenly and made an illegal U-turn. His car got in the way of another car on his left while doing so.

Driving against flow of traffic for 100m, he nearly collided with another car before turning into the multi-storey carpark of Chinatown Point in New Bridge Road. He was caught on level three by the two officers on duty.

The officers noted that his speech was slurred and he had bloodshot eyes when stepping out of the car. He then failed the breathalyser test and was taken to the Traffic Police Headquarters.

There, they found his breath-alcohol level to be 81 microgrammes in 100ml of breath - more than twice the legal limit.

He has a similar drink driving conviction from back in 2013.

His lawyer, R.S. Wijaya, pleaded for leniency - Ng had been undergoing family and work problems at the time, eventually finding solace in drinking.
