Suspects in loan shark harassment nabbed by police!
Three suspects in two cases of loan shark activities have been arrested, according to a police statement on Tuesday (23 Jan).
The two cases had been reported in the past two weeks. In the first, a report had been made of a residential unit in Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4 splashed with paint and vandalised in graffiti on 13 Jan.
Following extensive ground inquiries and review of camera footage, a man, 22, was arrested near West Coast Highway on Monday.
It is believed that he carried out similar harassment acts in Choa Chu Kang and Serangoon in the past. A haversack, a cap and mobile phone was found on him.
The second report also came from a unit in Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4, where loan sharks had set a fire. Two men aged 28 and 32 were arrested in Lengkok Bahru on Monday, and a sling bag, jacket and two mobile phones were seized.
All three will be charged in court on Wednesday under the Moneylenders Act. First time offenders found guilty will be imprisoned up to five years, caned up to six strokes and can be fined between $5,000 to $50,000.
