Taxi driver A. Ashok Kumar, 54, had dropped off the 47-year-old American woman and her husband after picking them up from a bar in Circular Road on 15 Jun 2016.

She had supported him out of the car and refused Ashok Kumar’s help. However, the driver had gotten out of the car and followed them into the lift to their flat.

After she took her husband in, she was shocked to find the driver standing outside her home. As she moved to close the door, he kissed her on the cheek. In surprise, she moved her head away and the cabby then kissed her on the mouth.

Ashok Kumar denied molesting her and claimed the couple had both been drunk. He stated that the woman had brought her cheeks on his to thank him as he was leaving.

He has since lost his job. The sentence will begin on 31 Jan 2018 for him to settle personal affairs.
