Four arrested for involvement in mobile phone contracts scam
Four people have been arrested for allegedly committing a series of scams involving mobile phone contracts which left victims paying for unwanted phone bills.
According to a Singapore Police Force statement on Thursday (25 January), one of 10 victims reported to the police that he responded to a job offer posted online which would pay $600 a day. Victims were instructed to sign up for mobile phone contracts that came with phones, and handed over the phones to the suspects.
The four suspects assured victims that the mobile phone contract would be terminated and that they would not have to bear any charges. After handing over the new phones to the suspects, the suspects became uncontactable and did not terminate the contracts, leaving the victims to pay for the phone bills that arrived.……
