If you’re planning a day out on Sunday (4 Feb), chances are you’ll be taking the Downtown Line (DTL) to your destinations.

On that day, however, security screenings will be taking place, as Exercise Station Guard 2018 happens from 10am to 6pm that day.

What happens?

Commuters will be directed to fare gates near Exit A of DTL Newton Station for security screening.

Commuters will then have to pass through a detector.

Their bags and belongings will be scanned through an X-ray machine.

Important things to note

Security guards will be on-site to provide instructions.

Exit C will be closed.

North-South Line Newton station will not be affected.

Avoid carrying big baggage on the day (4 Feb) at DTL Newton Station as it will take longer to go through the exercise.

Why is this necessary?

According to the Land Transport Authority, the emergency exercise allows SBS Transit to review and test security measures.

It also familiarises their public transport operators with ground implementation plans, and allows them to respond to any threat effectively.
