An internet romance with a dashing pilot turned out to be an utter scam! What's going on?!
Setting up Instagram and Facebook accounts as a dashing male pilot, she had lied and scammed her way into a relationship with another woman who didn’t know her real gender.
On Thursday (1 Feb), Durrah Faiqah Mohammad Mokhtar was jailed for five months for criminal intimidation and stalking, which included disseminating nude photos of the victims to her friends and family.
The 27-year-old Durrah Faiqah Mohammad Mokhtar had been in a relationship with the 29-year-old victim for more than a year.
The victim found Durrah’s fake accounts on Instagram and Facebook, then entered into a relationship after communicating through Whatsapp. They have never met in person.
During the course of their relationship, the victim sent Durrah around 10 sexy photos of herself. The photos showed her either topless or in underwear.
She repeatedly asked Durrah to meet up, but was refused. She eventually tried to break up with Durrah. However, the photos she had sent before were now used to blackmail her into continuing the relationship.
They reconciled, and Durrah asked for the victim’s Facebook and Instagram account passwords, using her possession of the victim's nude photos as leverage. The victim provided them reluctantly.
When the victim then tried to break up again and stopped responding to Durrah’s Whatsapp messages, she sent the obscene images of the victim to her brother through the victim's Facebook account.
On 26 April 2016, she sent them to the victim’s friends. The woman then reported to the police.
Between April and September that year, she then continued posting on separate Instagram accounts eight times, each time alerting the victim to distress her.
The accused was later tracked down and arrested. In court, the unrepresented Durrah said she was remorseful and asked for a second chance.
