Dentist hung himself in clinic at Hougang Green
He was a successful dentist who seemed to have everything going for him. Yet, Dr Clement Ong, 47, was also battling with depression.
On Saturday (3 Feb) night, at about 10pm, his wife found him dead in his clinic after being unable to contact him. He had hung himself in his clinic at Hougang Green Shopping Mall.
His wife had been unable to contact him, despite it being way past his working hours. She had gone down to the clinic and ended up discovering his body, with a rope still around his neck.
According to the owner of a nearby shop, the dental clinic usually closes at about 5pm. However, that day, the lights were still on at about 8pm. He did not see Dr Ong.
A regular client of the clinic reported that he had visited shortly prior to Dr Ong's suicide. However, Dr Ong had appeared normal, even giving him a discount on a tooth removal.
It is understood that Dr Ong suffered from depression. However, it is not clear if it was the cause of his suicide.
The police has classified the case as an unnatural death and is currently investigating it.
For those who are suffering from depression, there are helplines and clinics available to provide the help and support you need.
