Upset with being told off by her 90-year-old employer when he got in a bad mood, an Indonesian domestic worker stole $5,000 in red packets and fled home.

35-year-old Aprianah, who goes by a single name, has been jailed one month for theft.

She had been leaving Soh Meng Sing’s home in Boon Lay Drive on 26 Feb 2017 when she found the key to his drawer, still in the lock.

She returned early from her day and took a stack of red packets from the drawer.

Then, gathering her belongings, she headed to HarbourFront Ferry Terminal and left for Batam.

She used some of the money to buy a flight back to her home island then used the rest to pay off house debts.

Soh lodged a police report the next day, and she was arrested when she returned back to Singapore on 6 Feb this year at Changi Airport.

Her sentence was backdated to 10 Feb.
