They had threatened to circulate a minor’s sexual video on social media, and in order to stop them, they told the 17-year-old boy to hand over $2,000.

The pair, 21-year-old Naveenthiran Thevathas and 23-year-old Nitesh Naidu Raj Kumar Naidu, were each charged with one count of extortion on Saturday (17 Feb).

No information was made available on the video details and how the pair got it.

They threatened the boy at Lot One Shopper’s Mall in Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4, around 5.30pm on 14 Feb, and demanded to be paid.

Two days later, he handed them the money at Hillcrest Road near Dunearn Road.

No bail was offered for both men, who are now remanded at Jurong Police Division.

They will return to court on 23 Feb.

If convicted, they could be sentenced to jail for two years and caned.
