When a cleaner told him not to dump cardboard and styrofoam at a void deck, the ensuing argument caused him to punch the 25-year-old Bangladeshi conservancy worker.

On Monday (19 Feb), 42-year-old Ong Ah Chye was jailed for five days for causing hurt to Hossain Mohammad Tohin at Block 104A Canberra Street in Sembawang at about 1.30pm on June 30 last year.

Hossain was fixing pipes when he saw Ong unload the cardboard and styrofoam from his lorry. He told Ong not to do so, but they got into an argument.

Ong then punched Hossain and drove off.

The victim was given two days’ medical leave after suffering a small cut at the corner of his lip.

Ong said he acted on impulse after the argument, and had apologised. He pleaded for leniency.
