More than three months’ jail for rag-and-bone man’s assault on public servant and two theft offences
His collected cardboard had been removed as instructed by a town council property officer, and in anger, he slapped the man.
Rag-and-bone man Khor Deng Yoeng, 45, was jailed three months for hurting Sim Hang Whatt, a property officer of Marsiling-Yew Tee Town Council.
He had slapped Sim on both sides of the neck while demanding for his cardboard back at the cleaners’ site office at Block 181 Marsiling Road multi-storey carpark on 1 Feb 2017.
Sim had gotten a cleaning supervisor to remove it after reports on 31 Jan that it may pose a fire hazard, and had attempted to seek permission from Khor.
However, Khor’s daughter was the only one at home at the time, so the cardboard was removed and kept at the office temporarily in case her father wanted it back.
Khor then went down to the office and demanded to know who asked for it to be removed, as well as official documentation. Although Sim explained his duty to remove it, Khor retaliated by slapping him.
Khor was also jailed for two separate incidents of theft - two weeks for stealing a box of Abercrombie perfume worth $108, and four weeks for stealing a Louis Vuitton (LV) handbag worth $1,190.
In the first, he had stolen perfume from Metro at Causeway Point on 4 Jul 2017 by passing it to his wife, which was caught on closed-circuit television. She did not know it had been stolen.
The second occurred while he was out on bail, where he stole a LV bag from a Money Max sales executive on 1 Sep that year while she was busy at a Causeway Point roadshow.
An attempt to pawn the bag off at Money Max in Woodlands Centre and CCTV footage established his identity.
Two other charges were taken into consideration.
The three months’ and four weeks’ jail sentences were ordered to be run consecutively.
