A traditional Chinese New Year taboo is the belief that one should not owe anyone else money or things before the start of CNY.

Previously unresolved audit matters all resolved

For the Workers’ Party (WP), one of its unresolved matters was the financial and governance problems in Aljunied-Hougang Town Council (AHTC) flagged by independent auditor KPMG in its past audits.

The Big 4 audit firm started looking into AHTC’s books after the Court of Appeal judgment in Attorney-General vs AHPETC.

In a 15-page Valentine’s Day report to AHTC, KPMG announced that it is “reasonably satisfied” that AHTC has  been compliant with section 35(c) of the Town Council Act.

More importantly, the final report noted that all 17 audit points and control-related matters identified for resolution by KPMG have been resolved.

Yup, all sorted.

Pritam Singh thanks residents for support and encouragement

Pritam Singh, who chairs the AHTC, said in its press release announcing the news on Thursday (Feb 15) that the new Town Council Financial System is fully operational.

He added that the town council has also appointed an internal auditor to stress-test its controls and procedures, including the new financial system and procurement matters over the next two years.

Pritam concluded by thanking the residents and well-wishers for “their unstinting support and encouragement”.

WP didn’t stress test its AHTC website though.

Its Facebook page announced that its website server was down — possibly due to the heavy web traffic — and they decided to share their press release on Facebook instead.

Here it is:
