Own a HardwareZone (HWZ) account? Your user profile data may be compromised - a hacker has access to information like the users’ full name, usernames and email addresses after breaching a database of 685,000 accounts.

The site found the breach on Sunday (18 Feb) after discovering a “suspicious posting” on the forum.

An investigation was launched and a breach was found to have taken place last September when a perpetrator hacked a senior forum moderator’s account.

HWZ owners SPH Magazines have made a police report and informed the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC).

A statement by the company states that the database does not contain NRIC numbers, telephone numbers and addresses as these were purged in July 2015, in line with PDPC guidelines.

Forum users were advised to change their account password.

Security consultants have been engaged to conduct a review of the system.
