Government rejects 9% pay hike for its ministers
Bloomberg reports that the government has rejected the recommended 9% salary increase for its ministers, according to Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean.
After the last review, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s annual income plunged 36% to $2.2m. New ministers now make about $1.1m, down from $1.58m before 2011.
However, Singapore’s ministers are amongst the world’s highest paid officials as cabinet members in the U.S. typically earn $210,700 which is about a quarter of what city-state ministers get.
