Its been a stop-start season for Andy Robertson so far.The Scottish left-back has started three of Liverpools opening six league games, but hasnt overly impressed in the process.Robertson has been a steady presence in the position since signing from Hull City for £6m in the summer of 2017. After winning his spot at left-back at the expense of Alberto Moreno, Robertson has improved exponentially, and most Liverpool fans consider him to be one of the finest left-backs in circulation. But its difficult to make the case for him in the early going of this campaign.Robertson endured a difficult afternoon against Brentford during the 3-3 draw in west London, and in many ways it encapsulated his sluggish start to such an extent that there is a discussion going on amongst the Liverpool fan base as to whether Kostas Tsimikas should be favoured, at least for the time being. The Greek defender has stepped in for Robertson several times in the early parts of the season, and has proved a more than adequate replacement for the Scotsman. In fact, Tsimikas has provided two assists in five appearances in all competitions this season.Following Tsimikas brilliant performance against Burnley in late August, Klopp was asked whether Robertson was replaceable at left-back.Read MoreRelated ArticlesRead MoreRelated ArticlesIn the last few years, it was often a problem that it was quite tricky to replace Robbo. I would say its actually not really possible because Robbo is a world-class player, stated Klopp.Hes like the full package, as the defender and the attacker, that you wish for in the position. Hes a leader in the team and all this kind of stuff. He [Tsimikas] is in a good moment, played well, set a goal up with a sensational cross. Its great to have them both. For a manager, its a problem when you dont have a left-back! When you have two, its no problem. With Tsimikas in the better form in the earliest part of the season, it makes sense to give him the nod for the next several games, and allow Robertsons confidence to return.Read MoreRelated ArticlesRead MoreRelated ArticlesAn argument could be made that Robertson was perhaps rushed back a little prematurely from the ankle ligament injury sustained in pre-season, and this is the reasoning behind his lacklustre performances in recent games. Moreover, Robertson played in all three of Scotlands international fixtures during the last set of games, and as captain of the side, hell likely play in their upcoming games against Israel and the Faroe Islands in mid October too. Therefore, resting him for the games against Porto and Man City could be a realistic option. Tsimikas arguably deserves a sustained run in the side, given his form.Yet as Klopp has previously alluded to, he believes Robertson to be the total package as a player, and it may be that he believes he cant leave him out of the side if hes fit and healthy. It wouldnt be a surprise if Klopp started Robertson against Porto on Tuesday, but it also wouldnt be a shock if he rested him and gave Tsimikas the nod. What is positive for the club is that there are two excellent options at left back, and thats something we havent been able to say for a long time.Read MoreRelated ArticlesRead MoreRelated Articles
