16 Jun – BTS member Jungkook has recently released a statement of apology following his first blunder since his military discharge.

The singer, who was slammed after he was spotted wearing a cap bearing the words "Make Tokyo Great Again" during a rehearsal for BTS member J-Hope's encore world tour concert in Goyang, took to Weverse to express his apology.

He stated, "I sincerely apologise for the disappointment and inconvenience caused to many people by the phrase on the hat I wore during rehearsals."

The BTS star takes responsibility and apologises

Acknowledging he has disappointed fans by wearing the cap without fully confirming the political meaning of the phrase, Jungkook said that he has no excuse but to admit that he was careless and wasn't good enough.

"I will humbly accept both the criticism and criticism of my mistake. The hat was disposed off immediately," he added.

A variation of Donald Trump's "Make America Great Again" slogan, the phrase had since been used by far-right political figures across the world to spread their nationalist agenda.

In Japan, the phrase is seen as glorifying the country's imperial past, which is a sensitive topic to Korea and other former colonies of the Empire of Japan.
