Celebrity SAS star Jake Quickenden has revealed he feared he wouldn’t be able to hold his son after suffering the ‘worst injury’ he’s experienced in his life on the show.

From the beginning of the new series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, Jake, 33, has proven himself as one of the strongest contestants.

However, it’s been revealed that the former X Factor singer was forced to quit the show after suffering a shoulder injury that required surgery during a water extraction challenge, which involved him having to be pulled out of the sea in a speedboat.

Jake filmed the show before his son, Leo, was born in February this year.

This resulted in him feeling concerned that he might not be able to hold the baby due to his injury.

Speaking about the severity of his injury, the reality star told PA news agency: ‘I’d say it’s up there with probably the worst injury I’ve had, really. And I’ve broken my neck and I’ve broken my legs.

‘I said in my interview before the show that the only way I’d be leaving this show is in the back of an ambulance and that’s what happened.’

Jake explained that he ruptured his pectoral and his bicep, ‘so basically both tendons were ripped off the bone and that’s why my chest was hanging down and it just went black straight away’, he said.

He said that if he hadn’t undergone an operation, then he would have only had around 10 to 15% strength in his arm, outlining how he ‘wouldn’t have been able to do a lot of things’ if that had been the case.

‘So it was a good job I got it diagnosed and went to surgery,’ he said. ‘I had four pins in my shoulder that are still in my shoulder now and it’s been a year on and it’s pretty much back to normal now I can do everything and boxing again and stuff like that.’

Jake recalled how even when he was in the back of the ambulance he was ‘on the phone to the producer asking if I could do it next year’, as he was so desperate to finish the course.

‘As soon as I’d got injured, I looked at it and thought, “Right, here we go. I’ve got something else to get over now, I’ve got to get back to normal, I’ve got a baby on the way”,’ he said.

‘I didn’t have Leo at the time and I thought, “I don’t want to be not able to hold him,” so I need to get this operation done and get back to normal.’

Jake, who finished in second place on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2014, said that Celebrity SAS was the ‘hardest thing’ he’s ever done in his life.

Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins continues next Sunday on Channel 4.
