Fearne Cotton has revealed her first date with husband Jesse Wood consisted of a meal of vodka and cigarettes. 

The former Top of the Pops host married musician Jesse, the son of Rolling Stones legend Ronnie Wood, in 2014, and their first date was as rock and roll as you’d expect.

Fearne appeared on the latest episode of the Table Manners podcast with Jessie Ware, and was asked if she remembered the meal she had on her first date with Jesse.

The 39-year-old joked: ‘We definitely didn’t eat. My husband is the loveliest man ever, he’s so amazing. For our first date, I was a bit nervous because this was a point in my late 20s where for some reason there was interest in who I was dating, and it was really horrible.’

In an effort to hide the budding relationship from the cameras, Jesse, now 44, came to Fearne’s house, armed with a plastic bag of booze.

She explained: ‘My husband is now, and he’ll talk about this publicly, has been sober now for eight years, but he wasn’t when we met. So he turned up at my house with a plastic bag with a bottle of vodka in, and we drank that and we did not eat a thing. 

‘I think I had probably a couple of cigarettes just to wash down the vodka and that was me done. That was my meal that night.’
