Jewellery thief nabbed, stole $13,500 worth of items by pretending to try them on

She visited jewellery shops in Geylang and Little India, slipping them on to try. After she distracting retail assistants as she tried them on, she would leave without paying - with the items still on.
A 36-year-old suspect was arrested on Tuesday (23 Jan). Her identity had been discovered by the police, who did thorough ground enquiries after it received numerous reports of theft in jewellery shops from 22 Dec 2017 to 9 Jan 2018.
The items she tried were mostly gold necklaces and bangles.
She will be charged on Thursday for theft in dwelling. A conviction could jail her up to seven years.
