Welcome to our Liverpool.com media watch piece. Maybe not the first, we've definitely done transfer round-ups before, and European round-ups, so I guess in some ways it's not that new at all. Anyway, we thought we would enter the world of football in a broad and roundabout manner for you and have some fun with some of the stories and captions doing the daily rounds.***Anfield expansion confirmedLiverpool have confirmed this morning that the expansion of the Anfield Road Stand is set to proceed. The process will see 7000 more seats added, bringing the total capacity up to 61,000. As with the expansion of the Main Stand, the work will take place without needing to close the ground. The council granted planning permission in June, and this latest confirmation should be the final green light needed. The work is expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2023/24 season.Wijnaldum woes continueThings have not started well for Georginio Wijnaldum since his free transfer from Liverpool to PSG.On paper, it looked like he had played a blinder. His late change of heart saw him avoid the shambles that has since unfolded at Barcelona, and he still gets to play with Lionel Messi thanks to the Argentines sensational transfer. However, he has so far failed to settle under former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino. Wijnaldum was hooked at half-time in the draw against Simon Mignolets Club Brugge in the Champions League, and only featured as a late substitute at the weekend in Ligue 1. In quotes reported via the ECHO, Pochettino recognised that the Dutchman has struggled in Paris so far, but reiterated his faith in Wijnaldum: This adaptation time is necessary for the club, teammates, and families. As long as his family is not settled in his new life, it is difficult for a player to have the peace of mind to show all his qualities."We know that Wijnaldum can do a lot of different things for us in the game.Read MoreRelated ArticlesRead MoreRelated ArticlesYoung Reds progress in the Carabao CupJürgen Klopp once again used the EFL Cup as an opportunity to play some fringe players, and he will have been delighted with what he saw.A combination of youngsters and out-of-favour stars came together to put in a convincing performance against Norwich City, ultimately running out 3-0 winners. Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino, two much-maligned forwards, were the source of the goals. At the other end, Caoimhín Kelleher produced a fine penalty save at 1-0 to keep Liverpool ahead, as well as putting in a fine sweeping display throughout. At right-back, Conor Bradley had a solid debut, while half-time substitute Tyler Morton did a great job as the defensive midfielder. Liverpools second string have now most likely earned themselves more minutes in the next round. The draw will take place tonight.Read MoreRelated ArticlesRead MoreRelated ArticlesLiverpool pursuing Haaland transferEvery big club in Europe will be linked with Erling Haaland until he gets his inevitable move next summer, but its still nice to see Liverpools name in the conversation. Mundo Deportivo have explicitly named Liverpool as competition for Barcelona in their pursuit of Haaland. Quite where the Catalans would find the money for such a transfer is another story altogether, but the report ( via Sport Witness ) claims Klopps side are 'in the footsteps' of the forward too. Other teams named as suitors for the Norwegian include Real Madrid and PSG. Agent Mino Raiola will no doubt look to drive up the wages as high as possible, which may prove problematic for FSG, but the release-clause fee of around £75m should not be entirely out of reach. There is an acceptance that Liverpool need to freshen up their attack, and there can be few better candidates than Europes foremost young striker.Read MoreRelated ArticlesRead MoreRelated ArticlesBowen is a wanted man Liverpool continue to be linked with West Ham Uniteds Jarrod Bowen, but the Independent reports that there is plenty of competition for his signature. Spurs and Leicester City scouts are believed to have been watching the attacker for a long time. Liverpools interest also apparently goes back some way, incorporating his time in the Championship with Hull City.Transfermarkt estimates Bowens market value at £27m. This is likely to be on the low side: West Ham paid £19m for the forward 18 months ago, and he has certainly increased his value since. With the Premier League and English premiums attached, it would not be a surprise if the London club wanted to at least double their money on any sale.Liverpool may baulk if the price gets too high, but at 24 years old and with the ability to play across the front three, there is plenty to like about Bowen. The recruitment team have not got too much wrong in recent years, so if the club do opt to make a move then there is reason to be optimistic.Read MoreRelated ArticlesRead MoreRelated Articles
