Manchester United have had a strong transfer window. It has perhaps lured some pundits into getting overexcited about the prospects of Ole Gunnar Solskjærs side, with swathes of analysts queuing up to predict a finish above Liverpool, but Jadon Sancho and Raphaël Varane are both clearly very good additions. With Eduardo Camavinga also heavily linked to Old Trafford, Jürgen Klopp must move to bring him to Anfield in order to maintain the ascendency over the old rivals.Camavinga is an 18-year-old midfielder plying his trade for Rennes. He is considered a rising star in French football, but like a certain other Ligue 1 talent has opted to let his contract run down. His deal expires next summer, meaning interested clubs can negotiate a free transfer from January. Rennes are one of the few clubs in a position to stomach the financial hit associated with the collapse of the leagues TV rights deal, but they would still clearly prefer not to lose a key asset for nothing. As such, Camavinga could be on the market this window, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that £30 million might do it. This is a relatively cut-price deal for someone so highly rated, so it is little surprise that both Manchester United and Liverpool have been credited with an interest. According to 90min, they are joined in this respect by PSG, Real Madrid and Cheslea: a clear indication of the players quality. This is stiff competition, but Liverpool must throw everything at the deal. The question of whether a Georginio Wijnaldum replacement is needed is up for debate, but before too long (in the grand scheme of things) it will be time to think about replacements for Jordan Henderson and Thiago. Having a trio of Camavinga, Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones waiting in the wings is not a bad situation to be in, to say the least: for all the talk of FSG playing brinkmanship with the age of the squad, one more young midfield signing could box off that area of the pitch for a decade.Read MoreRelated ArticlesRead MoreRelated ArticlesJust as this would be good for Liverpool, it would be unfortunate to hand such an advantage to a rival. A midfield of Scott McTominay and Fred remains the one clear weak spot in an otherwise formidable Manchester United team. Solskjær himself is arguably another area that could be improved upon, but the Norwegian would at least stand a chance of delivering success if defence, midfield and attack were all significantly bolstered in one window. Bringing Camavinga to Anfield instead would keep Liverpool ahead of the curve, providing depth for the here and now and bright prospects for the future. Klopp would surely need little convincing: the teenager is already among the top 12 per cent of pressers in Europe in his position, and FBRef lists Wijnaldum as one of the ten players most stylistically similar to the Rennes midfielder. With plenty of time for the manager to mould the player, he has all the tools to become a mainstay in a side looking to challenge for titles once again. Signing Camavinga would strengthen Liverpool and thwart Manchester United, all at a price palatable to FSG. As elevator pitches go, thats not bad.Read MoreRelated ArticlesRead MoreRelated Articles
