Welcome to our Liverpool.com media watch piece. Maybe not the first, we've definitely done transfer round-ups before, and European round-ups, so I guess in some ways it's not that new at all. Anyway, we thought we would enter the world of football in a broad and roundabout manner for you and have some fun with some of the stories and captions doing the daily rounds.***Harvey Elliott set for England u21 call-upThe Daily Mail reports that Harvey Elliott is in contention for his first cap with the England under-21s. Newly-appointed coach Lee Carsley has Elliott firmly in his sights, and a call-up could come as early as games against Romania and Kosovo next month. The forward (or is he a midfielder now?) has made nine appearances for the countrys under-17s side, scoring three goals. Based on both his loan last season and his pre-season form to date, he certainly seems more than ready for an opportunity with the England u21s. If his meteoric rise continues, a senior cap probably wont be too far away either. The youngster is a legitimate candidate for a Liverpool start on the opening day against Norwich City. But how it is with these kind of things, we have nothing to rush in this department.Caution is the watchword after such long-term injuries, so it would be no surprise to see the manager opt against starting the duo. The availability of Joël Matip and Ibrahima Konaté significantly reduces the urgency of restoring Van Dijk and Gomez. Nonetheless, having all four fit and available for the season opener is a huge boost for the campaign ahead. The readiness of Van Dijk and Gomez is a vindication of the tough decision taken by both to rule themselves out of Euro 2020 contention and focus on the final stages of recovery.Read MoreRelated ArticlesRead MoreRelated ArticlesXherdan Shaqiri close to Lyon exitLiverpool look set to allow Xherdan Shaqiri to depart the club in an extremely cut-price transfer deal. The difference with Lyon is said to be down to 2 million, with Liverpool holding out for 8 million (roughly £6.75 million). Thats around half the price the club paid to acquire the player from Stoke City, a sum they were said to be hopeful of recouping. Such a gap seems likely to be bridged, particularly with LEquipe reporting that the player has now agreed personal terms with the French outfit. A 3-year-deal looks set to earn Shaqiri around 350,000 per month, or roughly 81,000 (£69,000) per week. The low transfer fee seems a bargain for such an obviously talented player, particularly off the back of his excellent Euro 2020 campaign. However, thats the state of the market post-Covid for all but the biggest buying clubs; from Liverpools perspective, the eagerness to free up wages and a squad slot could potentially hint at incoming business.Kylian Mbappé wants to leave PSGA prominent French journalist has dropped a significant update on the future of Kylian Mbappé.The forward has long been known to be unsettled at PSG, but the trail has gone somewhat cold in recent times there was beginning to be a sense that the player was edging towards an eventual renewal. This may still happen, but the latest news suggests that his heart is still firmly set on an exit.Thibaud Vezirian claims that it is either Real Madrid this summer or a free start in a year for Mbappé. Interestingly, he claims that the starlet had made it clear in advance that he did not wish to play with Lionel Messi. However, Messi is a cautionary tale about how few clubs there are to which the top players can genuinely move. Mbappés wages are already phenomenal; throw in a hefty transfer fee this summer, and there is essentially nowhere that could afford him. Even on a free next year, the pool of possible destinations seems extremely small: and, unfortunately, probably doesnt include Liverpool. Its not a slight on FSG or their ambition, but rather the realities of a game heading more towards a tight ring of state-backed clubs squeezing the market for everybody else. But, you know, #Mbappe2022?Read MoreRelated ArticlesRead MoreRelated Articles
