Elitism is a deep seated culture stained in our society. Disparity effect attribute is/was partially driven by our MOE soon-to-be defunct streaming. Grading is effective but should not be 'be all end all' process thus leading to anxiety n stress amongst our students n parents too. We have to recognise existence of late bloomers s well. At least MOE OYK is making an initial initiative to long road to recovery to world class edu. P.S. One rare MP that stand out to make a better diff

Talk is cheap. “Celebrate effort, not results” Are there marks awarded to “effort”. At the end of the day everything is based on marks. Can a student display a lot of effort but got poor result go to a GOOD secondary school? The answer is “no”. I knew of one case, where a JC student was not admitted to the local Universities, because he missed by 1 or 2 A’s, despite appeals accompanied by principal’s recommendation. The student in question has put in much effort, was a student councillor and took part in various school activities. Let’s not cheat ourselves and face reality. As Long as there is exam and marks awarded, efforts can be thrown into the rubbish bin and at best can be recycled. So in the same vein, should one celebrate demotion not promotion?
