Novak Djokovic needed to change rackets in the second set of his match with Daniil Medvedev after completely losing his cool.

The Serb’s quest for a calendar Grand Slam got off to the worst possible start in the US Open final as he fell a set behind to his Russian counterpart.

Nerves and pressure were clearly getting to the world No.1 and it wasn’t until the second set that he let out his frustrations.

With the clock approaching the hour mark, Djokovic found himself on break point but Medvedev denied him with a crosscourt drop shot out of his opponent’s reach.

Djokovic thought about swinging his racket to the floor in frustration but opted against it with a ball girl racing onto the court to retrieve a loose ball.

He soon had another break point only for Medvedev to pull off a sublime backhand and deny him once more.

At that moment Djokovic saw red, thrashing his racket to the surface three times as the strings on the racket shattered.

The crowd were not impressed and subsequently booed before the world No 1 was handed a violation for racket abuse.

Djokovic would soon find himself staring down the barrel of a second successive set loss as Medvedev continued his impressive service games.
