Paris Saint-Germain have sounded out Erling Haaland with a view to the Borussia Dortmund striker replacing Kylian Mbappe before next week’s transfer deadline.

The Ligue 1 giants stunned world football earlier this summer by completing the signing of Lionel Messi from Barcelona with a view to forming a lethal forward line, comprising of the Argentine, Mbappe and Neymar.

France international Mbappe, however, is said to harbour little desire to play alongside Messi and instead hellbent on fulfilling a childhood ambition of playing for Real Madrid.

PSG are said to have reluctantly accepted a bid of €180million accepted for a player who has entered into the final year of his contract and shown little willingness to enter into negotiations over an extension.

According to the Daily Telegraph, PSG have reacted to Mbappe’s impending departure by contacting Haaland’s agent, Mino Raiola, to enquire about the possibility of engineering a deal during what remains of the summer window.

The Bundesliga club have remained adamant all summer long that their prize asset was not for sale at any price, especially in the wake of Jadon Sancho’s long anticipated departure to Manchester United.

Once Mbappe’s sale goes through, however, PSG would have the funds necessary to tempt Dortmund into parting company with a player who is likely to be available next summer for just £64m as a consequence of a clause that will become active in his current contract.

Messi aside, meanwhile, PSG have enjoyed a stellar summer window, signing Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is another client of Raiola, defender Sergio Ramos and midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, as well as former Inter full-back Achraf Hakimi.

Should they fail with a late attempt to snare Haaland, PSG are likely to turn their attentions to Everton’s Brazil international forward Richarlison.

Speaking about his striker’s future this morning, Everton boss Rafa Benitez said: ‘He is our player, we are really pleased with him, really happy.

‘Hopefully he can score a lot of goals this year for us.’
