Barcelona flop Philipe Coutinho is lined up for a shock Premier League return, but former club Liverpool are not set to be in the running to sign him. The £145 million playmaker joined Barcelona in January 2018 as the Premier Leagues most expensive export but has been unable to recreate his Liverpool form. Amidst a struggling Barcelona, the Spaniard has only registered 82 minutes in La Liga as the Spanish giants have looked a shadow of their former selves.This season saw a number of long-term problems at Barcelona come to a head as long-time talisman Lionel Messi left for Paris, and financial problems brought the Catalan club to their knees.As Barcelona struggle into a new era, the club increasingly turns to their youngsters over the some of their higher earners like Coutinho.Philippe Coutinho during the La Liga match between Cadiz CF and FC BarcelonaThe Spanish giants find themselves over £1billion in debt, partly in such a position because at one point their players salaries represented 103% of the clubs revenue.Players like Coutinho are on huge wages and despite efforts from the club have not yet been shifted off their books.However, now Spanish media is reporting that two London clubs are considering a move for the Brazilian as Liverpool made a decision about any possible return.El Nacional has reported that both Arsenal and Tottenham are considering a move for Coutinho and that January might see a move come through. The Spanish outlet also hinted that Liverpool have dropped any interest in bringing Coutinho back home.Liverpool have been a team revitalised this season, reminiscent of their Premier League winning side of two years prior.Jurgen Klopps Reds remain unbeaten in all competitions, however, with a number of international competitions due after Christmas, including the African Cup of Nations, the team could lose a number of key players.This means the Reds might be forced to foray into the transfer market in January.Coutinho did win the Champions League while on loan at Bayern Munich in 2019/20, during which he scored two against Barcelona in the infamous 8-2 drubbing.Coutinho has never managed to reach his potential at BarcelonaHowever, back in Barcelona, he finds himself out of favour with manager Ronald Koeman. So far in La Liga, Barca have managed two wins from five and find themselves in alien territory in seventh in the league, slowly dropping behind rivals Real Madrid. Koeman started Coutinho in the clubs previous two matches, but the 29-year-old managed only an hour in a 1-1 draw to Granada, and only 22 minutes in the goalless draw against Cadiz no Thursday.Barcelona brought in a number of new signings this summer, all on free agents. Whilst some like Manchester City s Eric Garcia have struggled to adapt, Memphis Depay has been a rare beacon of hope at times.
