Tokyo Paralympics: Ziyad’s controversial disqualification mars Day Seven for Malaysia

TOKYO, Aug 31  — The controversial disqualification of national athlete Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli in the men’s shot put F20 (intellectual impairment) category took the shine off Day Seven for the Malaysian camp at the Tokyo Paralympics here today.

The joy Muhammad Ziyad felt when he thought he had retained the gold medal he won at the 2016 Rio edition was shortlived when the Ukraine camp lodged a protest against the 31-year-old, claiming that the Malaysian was late to arrive at the call room before the event began at the Olympic Stadium here.
