Shelby Rogers has opened up on the highs and lows of being a professional tennis player and fears she’ll now be receiving death threats after her loss to Emma Raducanu at the US Open.

The American suffered a 6-2, 6-1 defeat to British teenager Raducanu in the last-16 as her fairy-tale run in New York came to an end.

Prior to facing the 18-year-old, Rogers had given the home crowd something to cheer about and was being tipped to continue her impressive run after dumping out world No.1 Ashleigh Barty.

But speaking after her defeat to Raducanu, Rogers gave an insight into the ups and downs she’s experienced in recent days and the negative fallout she’ll sadly have to endure on social media.

‘I think someone asked me the other day some advice I would give, and I said try not get too high or too low with every match,’ she said.

‘It’s tough when you know you have a win like that and everybody is treating it like the final.

‘Everybody coming up to me on site – I’m actually really happy I had doubles [on Sunday] because it kind of refocused me a little bit – but everybody is coming up to you, “Oh, great win”. I’m like “yeah, it’s just the third round. We’re not even halfway right now”.

‘It’s just really tough sometimes to keep that in perspective, but you do the best you can and try to ignore – sorry guys – try to ignore the media and everybody blowing it up and making you the story of the tournament.

‘Obviously we appreciate the spotlight in those moments, but then you have today and I’m going to have nine million death threats and whatnot.

‘It’s very much polarising, one extreme to the other very quickly.’

Raducanu also praised the week Rogers has had in her on court interview following the match.

‘It feels absolutely amazing,’ she said.
