Our nation’s deepest tunnel system – the Underground Transmission Cable Tunnel Project –will be up by June 2018 and will help ensure a reliable supply of electricity in Singapore.
With building works having begun in the year 2012, the completed tunnel is expected to help ensure a reliable supply that will meet Singapore’s growing electricity demand. The $2.4 billion tunnels go at least 60m underneath the surface of the earth, and is planned to last 120 years.
The tunnels stretch a total length of 40km and will house at least 1,200km of extra high-voltage cables, more than three times the distance between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
