The Galaxy Tab Fan Editions are back!

This time, with the Galaxy Tab S10 FE and Galaxy Tab S10 FE+. We recently got to try out the Galaxy Tab S10 FE+, and here's what we think of it.

Long story short, this tablet is an agile little tool that's great if you need an all-in-one kind of device at the more affordable price of RM2,799

The keyword here is more affordable. For years, Samsung's Fan Editions have offered solid devices that can hold their own weight but stop short of a full flagship device. But that isn't always a bad thing — as with all devices, it's in how you use it.Looking first at the build, the tablet's display measures at 13.1 inches. It's a 12% increase from the Galaxy Tab S9 FE+, making it the largest display on an FE device.

Encased in a matte aluminium frame, the Galaxy Tab S10 FE+ is only 6mm thick and weighs about 668g. Given its long frame, it can be a little daunting when you hold it vertically in one hand, but its overall sturdy build and IP68 water and dust resistance rating means it's a durable piece of tech designed for productivity wherever you may take it.It comes in grey, silver, and blue; the last of which is what we got our hands on.Coming back to that massive screen, we're looking at a 90Hz refresh rate on a high resolution LCD screen. While it lacks the AMOLED displays of its flagship counterparts, it still boasts a wide colour gamut with sharp visuals and rich hues.LCDs typically fall short in really displaying the deeper blacks and high colour contrast that AMOLEDs are known for. However, unless you're looking at them side-by-side (or you're really a tech junkie), it's not too jarring a difference.

Genuinely, though, viewing old photos on this tablet was a welcome surprise as the screen's size and sharpness allowed the smallest detail to shine through — something that gave me a newfound appreciation of said photos.

Having tried it out as both a tablet on its own and a laptop replacement, I have to say, I'm impressed with its duality

Now, I'm not saying it can fully replace a laptop, but it does a pretty decent job at emulating one, especially with Samsung's DeX mode. Even without enabling DeX mode, the customisable split screen option lets you open various apps at the same time, so multitasking on this tab is no issue. For a limited time only, the Galaxy Tab S10 FE+ comes with a free ITFIT Bluetooth book cover keyboard worth RM499. This, combined with a Bluetooth mouse, makes the tablet an adequate desktop setup.

The tablet is powered by the midrange Exynos 1580 processor, and it was able to run multiple apps simultaneously with little to no lag. Even while two windows with design software were running and YouTube videos were being played in picture-in-picture mode, the tablet handled it with ease and didn't heat up.

When paired with the S Pen, the Galaxy Tab S10 FE+ becomes a handy tool for the creatives at heart

The best part is that the S Pen comes with the tablet, so no additional purchase is required here. As always, using the S Pen feels comfortable, and it glides across the screen so smoothly that writing with it comes naturally without too much worry of scratching the screen. While I've mainly used it to write notes or doodle when I'm stressed, it'll definitely come in handy for digital artists because its pressure sensitivity allows the user control over the intensity and the thickness of the strokes.

When the S Pen is not in use, it can be magnetically attached to the back of the tablet for safekeeping.Battery-wise, the Galaxy Tab S10 FE+ has a long-lasting 10,090mAh battery that supports 45W wired charging. While the tablet comes with a Type-C cable, the power adapter is sold separately. The battery was actually able to last me two full working days before needing a charge, so consider me convinced that this is a great device to have on hand for both work and entertainment purposes.I recently used it as a laptop replacement for a full day, and this is how it went:

With a display like that, media consumption is a must. We're talking about movies, gaming, and Dolby Atmos.

The tablet didn't break a sweat running games, and that vibrant LCD really highlighted the game graphics in a way that makes you look at the visual powerhouse you hold in your hands and go, "Woah, that's really good".

The tablet itself has dual speakers that can go loud enough to fill an entire room without much distortion. So, how's watching movies on this in the dark? Stunning.Enabling Dolby Atmos gives the audio a fuller sound with that extra kick. Even without it, the overall sound of the tablet is well balanced. As per tradition, I tested the speakers with Metallica's Enter Sandman, and it was a satisfying audio experience that didn't get muffled despite me blasting it to its loudest volume.Admittedly, while the tablet offers great visibility indoors, its peak brightness of 800 nits means the display suffers a little bit under harsh lighting, particularly under direct sunlight.

Looking at the cameras, this tablet has a decent 13MP rear camera and a 12MP ultra-wide front one

Given that people typically don't take photos with a tablet this large (if you do, I respect your dedication), the two cameras are more than enough to cover your everyday needs, be it scanning documents or hopping onto a video call. It even supports video recording at up to 4K resolution. Here are some sample shots taken with the cameras:

The Galaxy Tab S10 FE+ also comes with AI features, albeit not the entire Galaxy AI suite

Along with an AI assistant, the tablet comes with handy features like Solve Math for quick calculations, Handwriting Help to refine handwriting, and of course, the beloved Circle to Search to get information in seconds. On the photo and video front, it has Best Face to help you choose the best photo for everyone, Auto Trim to compile key highlights from your video gallery, and Object Eraser to help you remove unwanted objects from your photos.

Overall, the Galaxy Tab S10 FE+ is a catch if you're looking for a more affordable Samsung tablet

Priced at RM2,799 for a 256GB variant, it's still about RM1,500 cheaper than the Galaxy Tab S10.While it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the S10 flagship tablets, it's still a great option if you're looking for a practical device fit for work or entertainment on the go.However, if you're more inclined towards Samsung's generative AI tools, then it may not be the best fit for you; you'd have better luck with the flagships. As for me, I prefer a device's ability to adapt to different work scenarios. Whether that's churning out social media content for work or spending twenty minutes trying to recreate the "The" drawing from Spongebob, the device's ability to accommodate these tasks matters most. And in that aspect, the Galaxy Tab S10 FE+ excels. The tablet is practical, portable, and I love the display. The trick is in how you'll use it.
