[UPDATED] Missing British teen believed to still be in Malaysia, say police

SEPANG: Police have confirmed that a British teenager who recently arrived in Malaysia via Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has been reported missing, with investigations now underway to locate the youth.

In a statement today, the police said it is actively investigating a report lodged at KLIA's main terminal building regarding the teen's disappearance.

"Preliminary investigations confirm that the teenager entered Malaysia through KLIA and is believed to still be in the country. Efforts to gather information that could assist in tracing and resolving the case are ongoing," said Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) deputy director (intelligence and operations) Datuk Fadil Marsus.

He said the case is being handled by the department as a missing persons case, and an image of the teen has been released to facilitate public awareness and assistance.

"The public is advised not to speculate or issue statements that could affect the investigation process," he said.

Those with any information regarding the teenager's whereabouts are urged to contact the KLIA district police headquarters' investigating officer, Inspector Hazuin Jan Abdul Hamid, at 017-736 9187.

Police have yet to disclose the circumstances leading up to the teen's disappearance, but have assured that every effort is being made to locate the individual swiftly.
