A photo of a RM50 note has gone viral on social media as a man hopes to reunite it with its original owner.

The note had a message written in Bahasa Malaysia which roughly translated to "last money received from dad" with the date "11/5/20" along with the words "Al-fatihah".

Facebook user Tuah Lim posted it claiming that the note was from an ATM in Kuantan, Pahang. He said "maybe the original owner wants this money back" in his post.

The post made on Feb 20 has gone viral with over 11,000 shares and 300 comments from users who said they were touched by the message on the note.

In an interview with local media, Lim whose real name is Mohd Azfarul Zainol Akmar, said a number of individuals have since contacted him claiming to be the original owner of the note since his post went viral.

"A few people have contacted me claiming that the note is theirs but I have to be careful in order to identify the real owner," he said in the report.

He added even though the note is only worth RM50, he is having trouble identifying the real owner and is asking the opinion of friends to help him decide.

He said in the report that he promised to keep the note until the real owner is found.
