The Road Transport Department (JPJ) recently opened bidding for a new special plate number series featuring the acronym ‘MADANI’ in honour of the policy framework and slogan of the current Federal Government, with some Malaysians expressing interest in the ‘MADANI8481’ plate number in particular.

With bidding for the special plate number series already ended on 23 October (Wednesday), Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook recently revealed the revenue generated from the ‘MADANI’ plate number sales.

The ‘MADANI’ special plate number series generated RM2.6 million in revenue

Speaking to reporters during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, Loke was quoted by Berita Harian as saying that the ‘MADANI’ special plate number series managed to generate RM2.6 million.

Loke said that the number is based on the initial report he received. He asserted,

“So far (the ‘MADANI’ plate number sales revenue) it’s RM2.6 million. I will be issuing a statement later,”

For reference, bidding for the special plate number series was conducted from 19 October to 23 October 2024, 10pm.

Bidding starts at RM100, and the revenue from the MADANI special number plates will be channelled to realise the Transport Ministry’s initiatives, namely the MyLESEN, Helmet Exchange and FlySISWA subsidies programmes, as well as PERKESEO payments to taxi drivers.

The highest bid for ‘MADANI8481’ before bidding was closed was RM26,666

As for the ‘MADANI8481’ that some Malaysians are apparently really interested in, the highest bid as checked by WORLD OF BUZZ before biddings were closed at 10pm on 23 October was RM26,666.

However, it is unknown whether that specific plate number was sold at that price or higher, as the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and JPJ have yet to release any statement breaking down the sales of the ‘MADANI’ special plate number series as of the time of writing.

Furthermore, it is very unlikely that details about the sale of the ‘MADANI8481’ will be revealed by JPJ or MOT as the plate number was not part of the main, premium, interesting or popular categories in the bidding.

Instead, ‘MADANI8481’ was just part of the ‘current’ number category for bidding, with only a RM100 starting bid required. For comparison, the main category’s bidding starts at RM20,000, the premium category at RM5,000 and the interesting category at RM2,500.

With that in mind, given that the starting bid for ‘MADANI8481’ was only RM100, it’s noteworthy that the highest bid before closing was as high as RM26,666.
