'I'm a new mum and regret having my baby - I miss Netflix binges and alone time'
A new mum has confessed she 'regrets' having her baby even though she loves the tot more than 'anything in the world' - because she misses her 'peaceful' pre-parenting life
No one has ever said that being a parent is an easy job, and one new mum has confessed she's realised just how tough things can be after welcoming her daughter into the world, as she "can't shake the feeling" that she "regrets" having her.
The anonymous mum insisted she loves her 10-month-old daughter "more than anything", but she can't stop thinking about the "peaceful" life she had before she became a parent and feels as though she wants to go back to those days. She admitted she's a "very introverted" person, and having to give up her alone time to focus on her child has been a struggle.
In a now-deleted post on Mumsnet, the woman wrote: "I constantly worry about something bad happening to her. She is a lovely, bright, happy, sweet, and quite independent child. But I just can't shake the feeling that I regret having her.
"I just want to go back to my old life. I had a quiet, peaceful, unexciting life, and that's what I like. I'm a very introverted, self-contained person and I was always happy just being by myself, working from home, watching Netflix in the evenings, enjoying nature, and having dinner out now and again. Maybe a holiday once in a while."
According to the Daily Mail, who shared the post before it was deleted, the mum said she "doesn't like" parenting because she feels suffocated by the "constant sense of responsibility" and the inability to "just sit and relax and do nothing all day".
She finished her post by asking fellow parents if she will "always regret the loss" of her old life, or if she'll start to enjoy parenting more once her daughter is a little bit older. Many commenters admitted that they also struggled with similar thoughts when their children were young, but insisted things "will get better".
One person wrote: "It will get better, ignore anyone who relishes in telling you otherwise, babies are awful. It gets much easier when you can communicate with them two-way. It won't be like this forever, I promise." Another looked at it a different way, explaining: "I don't think it's so much the baby as the grieving for your old life. I felt all those things you do and I was an older mum who liked my lazy ways. When I had my second, my baby was just as tricky on paper, but I was no longer grieving my old life so it's way easier."
Someone else agreed, adding: "I found the baby age mind-numbing because you are constantly on alert but never really doing anything you want to. Once you don't have to watch every single thing they do, and they actually want to do quite fun things with you, it definitely gets better. Don't get me wrong, long boozy brunches are a thing of the past, but you get much more of yourself back once they get to school age."
