A man who went to hospital to have his right leg amputated was stunned to wake up and realise bungling surgeons had removed the wrong one.

Jason Kennedy, 48, said he woke up from surgery in "disbelief". The former commercial fisherman had visited Grace Hospital in Manitoba, Canada, for the scheduled surgery – which was suggested to him after he developed a bone infection that he was aware could see him eventually lose both legs.

But Kennedy says his right foot was in worse condition, and so a doctor at a separate hospital told him he would need to have it removed.
