A male driver in India was arrested after he allegedly rammed a female motorcyclist's bike, causing her to crash and narrowly escape death.

The incident took place on Sunday (Sept 13) in Gurugram, India, according to Shivani Chauhan, the motorcyclist involved.

Chauhan, who identifies herself as Sia online, posted footage from her vehicle camera on Instagram that same day. The video appears to show a car speeding up, cutting across lanes and swiping the side of her motorcycle.

The impact threw Sia off her motorcycle while the bike skidded forward.

According to Sia, the driver and occupants of the car were allegedly intoxicated at the time.

Another motorcyclist, Abhishek Sharma, who was riding behind Sia, also shared footage of the incident.

In his footage, the male driver, identified as Kalyan Bainsla, can be seen signalling for Sia to stop.

When she continued riding, Bainsla steered the car toward her sports bike and struck it from the side.

"He was continuously chasing her and passing comments, she didn't stop so he hit her so badly," Sharma wrote.

"I don't think Gurugram is safe for girls anymore," he added.

Driver arrested for attempted murder 

Bainsla claimed that the collision was an accident, and that he "felt sad" for Sia.

"About 20 to 22 motorcyclists sped past me. I didn't realise a young woman was riding one of the bikes; I had simply asked her and the young man accompanying her to slow down. I did not hit them intentionally," Indian publication Rediff reported him as saying.

In a separate video posted on Tuesday, Sia rejected Bainsla's account, saying the footage of the incident should be enough to show what happened.

She also questioned why Bainsla left the scene after the crash.

"Why didn't you stop?" she said. 

Bainsla was subsequently arrested on Tuesday in Dausa, Rajasthan, and is being brought back to Gurugram for investigations.

He will be investigated on one charge of attempt to murder, which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years if convicted.

"Playing with the law will not be tolerated at any cost. Gurugram Police is committed to taking strict action against the accused," said the Gurugram police, reported The Statesman.
