A Fresh Lineup for a Special SG60 Edition

The Singapore Art Museum (SAM) unveils the second cycle of its Learning Gallery this August, featuring a refreshed selection of contemporary artworks by an all-Singaporean lineup. Coinciding with Singapore’s 60th anniversary, the 2025 edition highlights the diversity and depth of local contemporary art, with works exploring themes of home, nature, the environment, people, places, space, and memory.

Among the new highlights is David Chan’s Animal Roulette, on public view for the first time in years, alongside new works by Chen Sai Hua Kuan and Ezzam Rahman. Returning favourites include works by photographer Nguan and Cultural Medallion recipient Han Sai Por.

Artworks that Invite Wonder and Curiosity

From fantastical chimera creatures and large-scale bungee rope drawings that stretch the definition of drawing, to delicate flowers made from human skin, each artwork offers a thought-provoking perspective on the world around us. Visitors are encouraged to approach the works with a child-like sense of curiosity—experimenting, imagining, and exploring new materials and ideas.

A Space Designed for All Ages

The Learning Gallery is designed as a calm, low-stimulation space where visitors can slow down and engage deeply with the artworks. Accessibility features include a tactile booklet created with the visually impaired community in mind, using the Tactile Colour System (TCS) developed by Beyond Vision International to translate colour into touch.

Visitors can also explore the RE-Material booth, where they can handle samples of materials used in the artworks, interact with an activity wall, and browse a curated reading library. These elements foster playful learning, emotional connection, and meaningful conversations around art.

Opening Day Art Carnival – 2 August 2025

To celebrate the refreshed Learning Gallery and SG60, SAM will host a free Art Carnival on Saturday, 2 August 2025. Families can enjoy:

Guided tours of the new exhibition

Hands-on art workshops

Interactive activities for all ages
