ETLE eases ticketing but improvements needed

The state-of-the-art Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) system introduced by the Jakarta Police’s traffic division has been lauded by many as it has forced road users to be more disciplined and has sped up the process of ticketing. However, technical issues still plague the system. Sobirin, 42, from Tangerang, Banten, is one of the violators recorded by the ETLE system for not wearing a seatbelt on his way to Pasar Senen in Central Jakarta to buy supplies for his home bakery business when passing through Jl. MH Thamrin. He said that he initially did not know that he had been ticketed.
