Suaram: Court granted religious authorities arbitrary powers in SIS case

Human rights group Suaram said the Kuala Lumpur High Court decision to dismiss Sisters in Islam's challenge against a Selangor fatwa declaring it "deviant" would open floodgates for abuse.
"The judiciary stands as a guardian of fundamental rights as it is the first and final place where a person can challenge a violation of their rights," Suaram executive director D Sevan said in a statement today.
