Jakarta sets sights on satellite cities for air pollution control

In another attempt to curb the capital’s heavily polluted air, the Jakarta administration is mulling over a plan to distribute air quality monitoring equipment to its satellite cities, an official has said. Jakarta Environment Agency head Andono Warih said the agency had discussed the plan with related city administrations, namely Depok, Bogor, and Bekasi in West Java, as well as Tangerang and South Tangerang in Banten under the Greater Jakarta Coordinating Board (BKSP Jabodetabekjur) forum. “We have talked about the plan with Banten and West Java provinces,” Andono said after a seminar titled Clearing the Skies, Fighting Climate Crisis held by the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group at City Hall on Wednesday. “We understand that air pollution occurs across boundaries.
